Honque

Jo Owens 27'

Honque

A made-up word

Not claimed by the French or the Americans

A word that combines two beautiful languages into a rough hybrid, riddled with questions

With no meaning whatsoever, just as this painting

A goose

Flies free over every territory

No concern for whose air they fly through

Because after all

Airspace laws only apply to special birds

And most geese aren't special

Canadian, American, Mexican

Territories flown through

On the way

To freedom and warmth

Honk

What a normal unspecial goose says

Honque

What a fancy goose says

Not necessarily a French goose

Because last I checked some of the stuff the French have done isn't too fancy

…ahem…

Trench Warfare in World War 1

Back to the point

This goose has a choice to make

This goose has made its choice

Committed to the French with a flag planted behind it

Bringing its word with it

The goose had a choice but now it will say honque forever

To fit in with the French.

Oh, you assumed the poem was over didn't you…

Well maybe a new choice has been made

But this choice has nothing to do with the goose

This choice is about the meaning

Maybe this painting has more meaning than is visible from the outside

A sign that freedom

And confinement

Can mix

Creating a magical world where wizard ducks

and fancy geese

Exist

Where possibilities are endless

Where another way to see things exists

A second lens to look through

A lens where the norm is zany and wild

And the boring way is unpopular

For example

The normal way would read

The duck sitting on the stone

had nothing to do

with the death of that squirrel

To compare that to the zany way would be impossible

It's too much fun

To not choose

as your favorite

The zany way would read

The duck sitting on the stone has a name

Kingsley Quacklebolt

A member of the Order of the Phoenix

He has a wand hidden beneath his cloak of feathers

he has recently slain

Professor squirrel,

The man with two faces

With his “Avada Kedavra” curse

The moral of the zany tale

is to look through that second lens

And engross yourself in the world of

✨IMAGINATION✨

Because you might just find

Your new normal
